Who We Are

History

Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) community-based, nonsectarian agency, providing critical help to Floridians since 1960. Each year Gulf Coast serves more than 50,000 children, adults, families and elders who have catastrophic medical, psychiatric, physical, developmental and emotional needs.

In 2001, Gulf Coast established The Florida Center for Survivors of Torture to serve survivors of torture and state-sponsored genocide who have relocated to the Tampa Bay area from their countries of origin. By 2005, the program's success led to the opening of an additional site in Miami-Dade County.

The Florida Center, a nationally and internationally recognized treatment center for survivors of torture and genocide, provides comprehensive treatment and support services, including medical and psychological care to survivors. The FCST is one of only 114 torture treatment centers world-wide, one of 35 torture treatment centers in the U.S. which forms the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Programs, and the only treatment center in Florida. Our center is accredited by the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims in Copenhagen, Denmark.
